We had a banner year at Pamela Hope Designs. So many wonderful clients and exciting projects. We are grateful beyond belief and full of enthusiasm for another year of great design!

Brookdale Senior Living Collaboration

We started off last year with a bang by filming of Make it Mine, a television program sponsored by Brookdale Senior Living. They pair a designer up with a resident for a super-secret apartment redo.

My team and I had a great time turning our client’s apartment into a place he could call home. Boyd was a delightful gentleman with an interesting past and lots of great memories. We were thrilled to make his favorite furnishings and accessories shine and tell his story. We concentrated on creating a welcoming environment so he could fulfill his goal of entertaining his many friends.

Interior Design Speaking Engagements and Education Opportunities

It was a busy year of interior designer focused presentations for me as well. I spent two years in graduate school as a French teaching fellow. I taught introductory and advanced French to undergraduates, many of whom were older than me. I learned that not only did I love French, but educating was a passion of mine.

I carry that forward into my design practice by educating our clients. I explain why a certain design decision is better than another. It’s not just because it’s pretty or interesting or has a “Wow” factor. There are always underlying scientific, mathematical, and emotional reasons as to why one might be a better choice. Whether it’s the lighting, the perspective, the technology, or the way it makes you feel, I am thrilled to be able to share this information with clients.

I was pleased to be invited back to Daikin (the new sponsor of the former Minute Maid Park!) to address their Asian design clients and provide a presentation on American design and trends.

They have hired me three times: twice for presentations and once to evaluate the concept of a design contest for their clients.

I ended the year as the speaker for the Christmas Luncheon at the Houston Heights Woman’s Club. I visited with clients and friends old and new after I presented “Home for the Holidays — Tips and Trends for Thriving and Surviving the Festive Season”.

A Growing Interior Design Team

We celebrated our new employee, Natasha Moreno, who began as an intern and was then offered a full-time position January 1, 2024. We were honored to accompany her to the launch of the Houston Community College West Houston Institute Scholarly Café. The building is a great space but there was a spacious, unused area. Natasha and her colleague created a coffee bar and lounge area for students, faculty and visitors to use at will.

Natasha and Pamela toured the Houston Furniture Bank. After the tour, they worked with fellow designers and spent half a day assembling chairs. The chairs were flat shipped and in many pieces. It took about 45 minutes to put together the first chair but after we obtained a power drill and knew the process, we made four more chairs within an hour. It was a fun team project and the chairs turned out great!

Interior Design Projects Around Houston

Houston Heights

Design highlights include moving a family back into their Heights renovation. This was a significant project in the Historic District which required a lot of additional paperwork and coordination. It was also an addition which is harder to do in historical areas.

We were able to double the size of the kitchen and add a baker’s pantry and significant utility room on the first floor while adding two bathrooms to the second floor so that all of the children had their own bathroom. The cherry on top was creating a beautiful third-floor study that overlooks the treetops of the hike and bike trail and even provides glimpses of the downtown skyline.

We cannot wait to photograph this project. For now, here are a few progress shots…

New Home Construction in Houston

We also partnered with a favorite builder to build a new construction home for a client returning to Houston after several years in New England. It’s a clean, modern and sun-filled space with lots of contemporary black and white design along with neutral, blond floors and blue accents, all of which are quite popular in Houston right now. We were happy to be able to add fun tiles and great modern lighting.

We are looking forward to photographing this home too. For now, here’s a shot right after moving day. The dog looks at home already but you can see blue tape is still on the island. We will be finishing art, accessories and rugs with this client in the next month or two.

Commercial Interior Design Projects

We enjoyed a few commercial jobs this year. We have a long-time law firm client that keeps growing and growing. They have a beautiful pent-house style space and we’ve been furnishing it over the last year. As they add associates, we are called back to add furniture. It’s great to see how successful they are.

We also had a long-time client call when he leased a commercial space for his real estate investment firm. We enjoyed assisting his team with the furniture and then finishing the space with a rug, art and accessories to add interest and color.

Holiday Parties & Reflection

We finished the year with lots of holiday events. We attended a festive party at Acero Bella as a team. We used this showroom to create a beautiful powder room vanity in the Heights project and plan to select a lot of our plumbing there this year.

We celebrated as a team with lunch in Rice Village and hitting a few design stores we hadn’t been to in a while. Our day ended with a perfume class in which we made our own signature scents.
