art for home

  1. Don’t be afraid to venture out. Art doesn’t always have to be a painting or a print. A favorite scarf or fabric piece can easily be framed for as interesting art. Treasured mementos can be combined in shadow boxes with a bold background color to add punch and visually tie together the pieces. The framed art shown at right, “Yellow Hat Black Wiggle Ribbon” by Rebeca Raney, is actually a hand-dyed Crepe de Chine silk scarf.
  2. Mix varying styles, while choosing one common element to include in all art pieces throughout the living space. Color is often the unifying aspect used, but you could also focus on a common theme or subject matter. Perhaps the commonality is French Impressionism or reds and rust tones as shown in the photo at the top of this blog post.
  3. Have an art piece you absolutely love? Style your décor around statement art pieces to intentionally guide guests to the focal point. Then, pick out a secondary color in the piece and weave that color throughout your space with throw pillows and other accents.

The art shown at right by artist Carolina Cleere was chosen by one of our clients. We highlighted this art in the center of the grandkids’ playroom to bring bold color to the wall made from reclaimed wood.

Have you worked bold accents into your home or office? What are some tips that you’d like to share?
