6 Ways to Spice Up Your Bedroom Décor

Most bedrooms have the same few elements: a bed, nightstands, a dresser, and maybe a lamp for reading. The easiest way to spice up your bedroom décor is to go outside the norm and add unexpected pieces! Here are six ways you can liven up your design in the bedroom:

  1. Go for Bold Fabrics
The typical design advice for bedrooms is to stick to peaceful, relaxing colors—usually soft neutrals. However, a great way to create a unique bedroom design is to try a bright or bold pattern. We’re currently loving bold green tropical patterns, or for a more mature look, you can try the modern ikat and geometrical designs that are currently covering magazines. These patterns can be used on your drapes, rugs, or bedding.

  2. Layer Rugs
Whoever said one rug was enough? Rugs add a cozy feel to any room, especially those with dark tile or wood floors. Try layering rugs in correlating colors and patterns around your bed.
  3. Go Beyond Art
To finish off a bedroom, we often go with a simple piece of art above the bed. No more! There are many other, more unusual items that can be used other than simple canvas paintings. Try a bold accent wall using wallpaper, hanging floating shelves, a rug, or a hanging sculpture piece.
  4. Odd Nightstands
One of the easiest ways to add a new, unique element to a bedroom is to rethink your nightstands. You don’t have to use just a plain pair of tables! Instead, try more unusual items. You can use a pair of vintage wooden chairs, a stack of books, shelves, baskets, or even a bar cart.

  5. End of the Bed
In large bedrooms, it’s important to add an element at the end of the bed. Without an element in this area, a bedroom will feel practically empty! You can stick with a usual bench or try one in a bold color or fabric. We particularly love using vintage stools and trunks!
  6. Add Live Plants
We usually think to add plants in the living room or kitchen, but adding plants around the bedroom can add the touch of life and fresh air it’s missing.
